RevolverCanada 0023 to be released SEPTEMBER 16 - 2008-08-23

The next installation of the RevolverCanada catalog takes us way back to the beginning of it all. Rozek (aka Chris/Troll) is label boss Jeff Milligan's former studio/live partner/highschool friend/former roommate, well over a decade ago. Chris got involved in the music industry in Toronto back in 1992, alongside Jeff Milligan. The two were best known for their live performances as “Algorithm and Troll”, performing together at all sorts of events in North America with Jeff manning the decks and Troll manning the outboard gear (Roland 101/106/202/303/505/606/707/727/808/909, Akai 612, Ensoniq eps16+, pedals and odd synths. Jeff and Chris's only semblance of an actual release was one tiny ltd. edition, little red 7” as a promo for a Switch-Detroit label party. Chris eventually dropped out of existence in the music scene for a long hiatus indulging in other digital media to express himself, developing 3D designs, and later video editing as well as designing visual content for VJ applications. Livin' from tree fort to tree fort, from Ontario to BC and back, Rozek has always been a bit of a nomad and an oddity. A studio prodigy who once overdosed on Halloween candy, once woke up with a mutant hair growing from his belly that was at least half a foot long and once made a child cry in a burger joint for making fun of a fun fur animal tail he used to sport. Dirty dreads and finger nails to boot, this EP gives a dose of intricate programming, a scent of patchouli, pine needles and a few good jokes. Currently based in Victoria, Canada, Rozek plans to pack it all in and ship out, taking himself from wheatgrass to wurst, sell his bong collection and head to Berlin like the majority of us uprooted Canadians in search of schlager fame and fortune. Revolver0023 is Rozek's first full EP ever.

RevolverCanada 0021 just released - 2008-02-08

RevolverCanada 0021 introduces us to 2008, the year of the Rat, a year of new endeavours, new beginnings, new hopes. What better way to bring in the year, than with an artist new to RevolverCanada. Back in Fall 2007, we stated our new beginning as an exclusively digital label and our manifesto against vinyl production, getting us much praise and some vague death threats. We hope other labels will follow our lead, save a tree, democratize, and push future thinking music into a future thinking industry. Fans of the label know we adore Japan & Japanese artists and Kai is our 3rd signing from the land of the Rising Sun. Kai (a.k.a Kaitaro-Nakajima) was born in '77 and has been in and around electronic music since he was 17, starting out as a HipHop DJ at the age of 17 in Tokyo. He later forayed into minimal house with recent past releases on our friends labels Sud Electronic, Alphahouse etc. and other forthcoming releases on Level Rec., Between Us and more. Kai, like so many of us, now resides in Berlin.

revolver cynosure history - 2000-01-01

Revolver Canada and Cynosure Recordings are two of Canada's foremost electronic music labels with critical acclaim worldwide. Cynosure Recordings is a minimal house and techno label founded in 1999 by Canadian techno luminary Mike Shannon. That same year, Revolver Canada was founded by Canadian DJ pioneer Jeff Milligan, alongside school buddy Robin Roy. Later that year Jeff and Mike joined forces to manage the labels in tandem whilst still curating the labels independently.

Revolver Canada and Cynosure were designed to serve as a platform for like-minded producers who were working with an aesthetic similar to their own, to voice a distinct Canadian sound and to spread that sound throughout the world. Jeff and Mike apply the same rigorous integrity to their DJ selections and productions as they do to choosing music for their labels. They have always chosen uncompromising acts for Revolver Canada and Cynosure that are unique and original without the restraints of genre. Mike's origins in Kitchener Ontario, Jeff's Toronto roots and the developing relationship with their Montreal comrades led to a distinct sound which spanned from Detroit to Montreal, influenced from everywhere in between and abroad.

Generally speaking, Revolver Canada is a platform for a unique minimal "off the beaten path" sound while Cynosure provides a platform for kick-ass club hits and tools. Many if not all of the acts who started their careers on Revolver Canada and Cynosure, went on to become major international successes. Revolver Canada and Cynosure were the first if not one of the first labels to present Akufen, Deadbeat and J. Hunsberger to the world.

Since 1999, Revolver Canada and Cynosure have collectively released a catalog of over 36 12" recordings, primarily consisting of Canadian artists including Montreal's Akufen, Mole, Mike Shannon, Mossa and Deadbeat, Toronto's Tomas Jirku, Matt Thibideau (Altitude), Adam Marshall and Pan/tone, and Kitchener's, Jay Hunsberger, Tim Bones and Tunji. Revolver Canada and Cynosure have collaborated with various prolific international artists with work appearing by artists like Pier and Andres Bucci and Sieg Über Die Sonne (Chile), Monolake (Germany) Perlon's Dimbiman (Germany), Sud Electronic's Portable (South Africa), Boxer Recordings Frank Martiniq (Germany), James Thomason (USA), Mitsuaki Komamura (Japan) and Shaka (Switzerland). The variety of imprints on Revolver Canada and Cynosure have given many Canadian and international artists considerable global exposure, substantially raising the profile of Canadian electronic music. Revolver Canada and Cynosure have had an unprecedented influence on electronic music locally and throughout the world. Revolver Canada resides in Berlin, Germany and Cynosure is based in Valencia, Spain.
